Job description & requirements

  • Job description - To lead weekly rehearsals during term time and as otherwise agreed
    - To audition new choir members and re-audition choir members in accordance with the agreed policy. Advise the committee of the results
    - Enhance the choir’s vocal abilities
    - Conduct 3 concerts per year, and other events as agreed e.g. cathedral services
    - To lead the engagement of professional musicians for concerts
    - To advise the committee on repertoire
    - To advise the committee on all concert issues including venues and publicity
    - To arrange deputies for rehearsals and concerts if needed
    - To attend committee meetings when required (about 6 a year)
  • Required skills Essential
    - Inspirational choral leadership
    - Extensive knowledge of the choral repertoire
    - Positive and encouraging approach to working with singers of varied experience and ability to bring out their best
    - Ability to work positively with accompanists and other musicians
    - Experience of conducting a choir of up to 50 voices
    - Ability to conduct choir and orchestra in larger scale concerts

    Desirable
    - Able to build links and working partnerships with other organisations to support the choir’s activities
